Churches (62) : St Margaret, Leicester

The church of St Margaret is one of the five ancient churches in the city of Leicester. The oldest surviving part of the church is in the transept which dates from around 1200CE though there is a stretch of Anglo-Saxon wall underneath the present church wall. Parts of the aisles have been dated to the 13th century.

However most of the surviving church comes from a substantial rebuilding in 1444CE in the Perpendicular Style including the West tower, clerestory, chancel and aisles. The church was restored in the mid-19th century.
